Tokenisation in Wholesale Financial Markets – Feedback Statement FS26/1 (September 2026)

What will the future of financial markets look like when traditional securities meet blockchain technology? This is no longer just a theoretical question. It is becoming a regulatory priority.I am pleased to share that my contribution to the Financial Conduct Authority(FCA) and Bank of England joint consultation on tokenisation in UK wholesale financial markets has been formally acknowledged in their September 2026 Feedback Statement (FS26/1).

The consultation brought together 123 responses from across the financial ecosystem, including financial institutions, technology firms, industry associations, and academic researchers. The resulting report raises some important questions:

🔹 Can tokenisation make financial markets more efficient without introducing new systemic risks?

🔹 How should regulators balance technological innovation with financial stability and investor protection?

🔹 Are our existing regulatory frameworks prepared for increasingly digital and interconnected financial markets?

For me, these questions sit at the intersection of FinTech, financial regulation, and the future of capital markets areas where academic research has an important role to play in informing policy discussions. It is particularly encouraging to see opportunities for researchers to contribute alongside industry participants to conversations that may help shape the future of UK financial markets.Academic research should not stop at publication. Its value also lies in contributing to the decisions that shape our financial system.Thank you to the FCA and Bank of England for creating opportunities for engagement and bringing these perspectives together.
